Georges Greek Cafe

Georges Greek Cafe

735 S. Figueroa

Los Angeles

For all the downtown folks that's going to be at 7th and Fig in the hole. The lunch scene downtown has been so dull for the last 5 years that I've been working down here but it's definately starting to pick up. In the past year there have been a lot of little cafes and restaurants popping up all over downtown. However, in the financial district we are stuck with either food that is just plain high or just not very good.
I don't mind spending $10 on lunch but I don't want to do it for some sub par burger. That's where Georges steps in. Now admittedly I'm not very familiar with Greek food and eating lamb just sounds so mean but this restaurant is great. It's healthy and you definately get what you should expect for $10. Typically when I go I have the Large Salmon Salad. Price is about $11 and it comes with two (not one) but two very nice sized salmon fillets on top. They also add a lot of that pita bread which is really useless to me if they aren't going to throw in the tzantziki. Who wants dough just to be eating dough? Anyway, today I decided to have something different and I went for a Gyro and Feta Fries. The Gyro was stuffed with sliced beef & lamb (I know so mean) in pita bread with tomato, onion, cucumber and that wonderful tzantziki. I'd definatley get this again. The Feta Fries was just french fries with feta thrown on top. This didn't make sense to me it looks like one day they may have had to much feta and had to use it before it went bad. Hey I know let's toss it on the fries. I think next time I'll just get the fries which were pretty good by themselves.
You see I couldn't take the picture first and then bite the darn thing. :)

  1. I love food. The feta fries sound delish but maybe cause I am a cheese person. Great start can't wait to see what's in store for your blog. :)
